At the initiative of the International Imam Maturidi Research Center, the book “Lost Enlightenment” by American historian and journalist Frederick Starr has been translated into Uzbek. This internationally recognized work covers the history and culture of Central Asia, particularly focusing on the IX-XII centuries, a time of great cultural and scientific development. During this period, Central Asia was at the forefront of advancements in science, medicine, philosophy, and mathematics. Starr’s book offers a detailed exploration of the region’s contributions to world civilization, focusing on the remarkable scholars from this time, such as Ahmad Fergani, Musa al-Khwarizmi, Abu Nasr al-Farabi, Abu Rayhan al-Biruni, and Ibn Sina. These scholars made groundbreaking discoveries in astronomy, mathematics, philosophy, and medicine, influencing the development of science in Europe and the Middle East.
The publication of the book in Uzbek was made possible with the support of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in the United States and through close collaboration with the author. The translation was carefully prepared and reviewed with the author’s input. The book will be distributed in educational institutions in Uzbekistan and is expected to become an invaluable resource for researchers, students, and anyone interested in the history of Central Asia. This translation will help provide a deeper understanding of the region’s contribution to the world’s scientific and cultural heritage.
Moreover, the book will foster a broader understanding of Central Asia’s role in world history, particularly in terms of scientific and cultural progress. It is anticipated that the publication will serve as an essential reference for future studies on the history and development of the region and its impact on global civilization.
