On October 21, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the “Green University” in Uzbekistan, Central Asia’s first higher education institution dedicated to environmental studies, established in 2023. The university was founded under the President’s May 31, 2023 decree to address modern ecological challenges and support the nation’s efforts to meet the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030.

During his visit, Mirziyoyev emphasized the growing importance of environmental issues, equating their relevance to that of digital technologies. The President underlined the need for rapid application of dual education in fields such as ecological economics, sustainable finance, and environmental law.

President Mirziyoyev also inspected future plans for expanding the university’s infrastructure, including transforming former college buildings into campuses. The President was further briefed on projects related to waste management, including recycling and the production of energy from waste, which is expected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and contribute to the nation’s green energy goals.

Uzbekistan is advancing its waste management sector by constructing waste processing plants and securing international investment. These projects will generate clean energy and promote environmental sustainability, in line with the nation’s broader green agenda.
