The European Economic Days have begun in Uzbekistan for the first time, organized with support from the Uzbekistan-Europe Economic Cooperation Association (EUROUZ) and other organizations. In a welcome address, President Shavkat Mirziyoyev of Uzbekistan emphasized that this event will play a key role in strengthening trade, economic, and investment ties with Europe. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, in her video message, highlighted Uzbekistan’s growing role in global trade, underscoring the country’s strategic and geopolitical significance. She expressed readiness to expand cooperation in fields such as information technology, resource extraction, and transportation infrastructure.
Uzbekistan’s Minister of Investments, Industry and Trade Laziz Kudratov and EU Ambassador to Uzbekistan Toivo Klaar emphasized that such mutually beneficial relationships foster new business opportunities and strengthen partnerships. Steps are being taken in Uzbekistan to improve the investment climate, develop cross-border transport routes, and boost sectors like agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and chemicals. Joint projects between Uzbekistan and the EU worth over $30 billion play a vital role in these developments. The European Economic Days will feature over 15 panel sessions, discussions, and roundtable events over two days to explore ways to enhance economic cooperation.
SUEZ CEO Paul Bourdillon noted the significance of participating in this event, emphasizing the importance of water resource and wastewater management in the face of population growth and climate change. He stated that water management is critical for health, agriculture, and food security, and cooperation with Uzbekistan will help develop long-term solutions in these areas.
