Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan are enhancing their cooperation in space technology and Earth observation to boost sustainable agricultural practices. The two countries have recently launched a joint project that uses remote sensing data to assess soil salinity. This initiative, based on an agreement signed in 2024, will significantly contribute to environmental monitoring and sustainable land use in both nations.

The project focuses on using modern technologies to evaluate soil salinity at early stages. This will help the agricultural sectors of both countries to prevent crop losses and increase efficiency under changing climatic conditions. Uzbekistan, through its space agency “Uzbekkosmos,” is also working closely with several countries, including Turkey, France, the USA, and the UK, to acquire high-quality satellite images and enhance technologies for furthering the development of agriculture and ecology.

One of the key aspects of this collaboration is the planned launch of a satellite in 2026, which will strengthen ties between the member states of the Turkic Council and demonstrate the technological potential of the region. This project will lay the groundwork for further cooperation in space research and sustainable land use. Using Earth observation technology, “Uzbekkosmos” is already providing essential data for monitoring the state of agriculture, ecology, and water resources.

In addition, Uzbekistan is actively involved in international programs aimed at developing space technologies and creating global standards and regulations for space research.
