In a forceful statement, National Struggle Foundation (MMV) President Aziz Gülbahar rejected the idea that the United Nations stands for rights, justice, or sustainable peace. “There’s no benefit from the UN; we must carve our own path,” he declared, emphasizing that Turkey must rely on its own strength rather than waiting for international support.
Gülbahar criticized the UN for protecting the interests of the Greek side in the Cyprus issue, influenced by the agendas of the Security Council’s permanent members. He noted that recent international developments—including ongoing conflicts in Ukraine and actions in the Middle East—have only confirmed the UN’s failure to uphold true justice.
Addressing proposals for a federal solution in Cyprus, Gülbahar argued that the conditions demanded by the Greek side—such as zero troops, zero guarantees, ceding a third of TRNC territory, and accepting a minority role in governance—are unacceptable for any person who truly identifies as Turkish. He stressed that the “two-state solution” presented by TRNC President Tatar, with the full backing of Motherland Turkey, must remain uncompromised.
Gülbahar concluded by urging the TRNC Assembly to pass a resolution mirroring the stance of the Turkish Grand National Assembly, effectively closing the door on any federal solution that undermines their sovereignty. He also called for persistent insistence on the official recognition of the TRNC as demanded by President Erdoğan at multiple UN General Assembly sessions, warning that history will not forgive any retreat in the face of a changing global order.
