Today, a scientific-practical conference titled “Turkmen Manat – A Symbol of Sustainable Development” was held at the Joint-Stock Commercial Bank “Senagat” in Ashgabat to celebrate the 31st anniversary of the national currency, the Manat. Attendees included leaders and specialists from state and commercial banks, finance and economic sectors, university professors, students from professional schools, and media representatives.
The agenda covered topics like Turkmenistan’s economic progress since the introduction of the Manat, national monetary policy, advancements in digital banking, electronic payment systems, and collaboration with international financial institutions. In his message for the occasion, President Serdar Berdimuhamedov highlighted the positive economic impact of the Manat, which has fostered a stable financial environment, effective monetary policy, and strengthened the economy. The president emphasized the goal of maintaining favorable macroeconomic conditions to support financial stability, economic development, and the integration of Turkmenistan’s banking sector into the global market.
As part of the country’s mid- and long-term development plans, Turkmenistan has initiated national programs like the “Revival of the New Era of the Powerful State: National Socioeconomic Development Program for 2022–2052,” and several others aimed at enhancing living standards and socioeconomic conditions across the nation.
Within the framework of the State Program for the Development of the Banking System (2011–2030), steps are being taken to introduce new banking operations, innovative technology, international accounting standards, and advanced online banking services. Efforts are focused on improving service quality, expanding mortgage lending, and raising workforce qualifications.
Investment is a vital component of Turkmenistan’s economic strategy, attracting foreign and domestic capital to fund strategic projects. A key measure of this success is Turkmenistan’s commitment to fulfilling international financial obligations, promoting economic partnerships, and fostering mutual respect and trust with global trading partners.
Attendees agreed that active dialogue and effective partnerships are crucial for mutually beneficial relations, especially in economic spheres, with major international financial institutions. Furthermore, the conference underscored the country’s focus on preparing skilled professionals for the banking sector, ensuring modern education and training for young economists.
In closing, participants expressed their gratitude to President Berdimuhamedov for his support of the financial sector. An exhibition was also held, featuring commemorative coins and national jewelry crafted since Turkmenistan’s independence, highlighting the importance of the Manat.
