Abdullah Eren, head of Türkiye’s Presidency for Turks Abroad and Related Communities (YTB), highlighted the critical roles played by Syrians who graduated from Türkiye in the reconstruction of their war-torn country and in boosting bilateral relations.
“Following the end of the 61-year Baath regime, Syria has entered a historic transformation process. Türkiye’s educational support and regional cooperation will serve as key building blocks in rebuilding Syria,” Eren wrote on X.
Eren expressed his satisfaction with the appointments of Asaad Hassan Al-Shibani as the interim government’s foreign minister and Azzam al-Gharib as the governor of Aleppo. Al-Shibani earned a master’s degree in Political Science and International Relations at Istanbul Sabahattin Zaim University, while Al-Gharib holds a master’s in Islamic Studies from Bingol University in eastern Türkiye.
“These individuals will take significant steps shaping Syria’s future,” Eren noted.
The Baath regime, which had ruled since 1963, collapsed after anti-regime forces took control of Damascus on December 8. Bashar Assad, who led Syria for nearly 25 years, fled to Russia following the swift takeover by Hayat Tahrir al-Sham forces.
