The 2nd Meeting of the Foreign Affairs Committees of Turkic Parliaments took place on February 18-19, 2025, in Istanbul, hosted by the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye (GNAT). The event was attended by high-level parliamentary representatives from Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Hungary, and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), along with delegations from key Turkic organizations, including the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic States (TURKPA), the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), the International Organization of Turkic Culture (TURKSOY), and the Union of Turkish Chambers of Commerce and Industry (TTSO). Diplomatic representatives were also present.
During the meeting, key speakers included GNAT Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Fuat Oktay, Azerbaijani National Assembly Foreign Affairs Committee Chairman Samed Seyidov, and representatives from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, and TRNC. Also delivering remarks were TURKPA Secretary General Mehmet Süreyya Er, OTS Deputy Secretary General Ömer Kocaman, and TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev.
The two-day sessions addressed significant regional and global topics, emphasizing the role of parliamentary diplomacy in strengthening cooperation among Turkic states. Chairman Fuat Oktay highlighted the institutionalization of cooperation mechanisms among Turkic countries, which are now firmly established in various sectors. He stressed that bilateral and multilateral relations have flourished through organizations such as TURKPA, OTS, TURKSOY, the Turkish Investment Fund, the Turkish Culture and Heritage Foundation, the Turkish Academy, and the Union of Turkish Chambers of Commerce and Industry.
TURKPA Secretary General Mehmet Süreyya Er emphasized the strong commitment of Turkic states to enhancing cooperation, stating that parliamentary diplomacy would pave the way for greater prosperity and unity among the Turkic peoples. He also detailed the activities of TURKPA’s Permanent Commissions, Working Groups, and Election Observation missions, which contribute to strengthening regional collaboration.
On February 19, participants enjoyed a cultural program in Istanbul, where they visited historical landmarks such as Hagia Sophia and Topkapı Palace. The event concluded with the issuance of a joint statement reaffirming the commitment of Turkic parliaments to continued dialogue and cooperation.
The inaugural meeting of the Foreign Affairs Committees of Turkic Parliaments was held on April 25, 2024, in Baku, Azerbaijan. This second meeting built upon previous discussions, outlining strategies for ensuring the regular and effective organization of future sessions.
