The Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Industry (KTSO) has advocated for the opening of new border crossings between the north and south of Cyprus, highlighting the economic importance of these crossings. In a written statement, KTSO emphasized that the current border crossings are insufficient to handle the growing congestion, causing long vehicle queues and delays.

KTSO stated that improving existing crossings would not fully resolve the problem and stressed the necessity of establishing new ones. “We believe that new border crossings are vital for the economy. With the right measures, the TRNC market could become an attractive destination once again for Greek Cypriots and tourists from the south,” the statement said.

The organization also highlighted that increasing border crossings could boost trade under the Green Line Regulation, offering significant economic benefits. KTSO suggested employing trained personnel to ensure more professional management of crossings used for trade.

Referring to claims in the media that the United Nations supports these efforts, KTSO reaffirmed its backing for initiatives to open new crossings and called on authorities to take concrete steps to this end.
