Members of the National Unity Party (UBP), Oğuzhan Hasipoğlu and Ahmet Savaşan, attended the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) upon the invitation of the Cambodian People’s Party and ICAPP leadership. The conference, held in Phnom Penh from November 21-23, was the first time a political party from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) was represented at an Asian event.

Speaking during the ICAPP 12th General Assembly, Hasipoğlu and Savaşan presented the Cyprus issue to international counterparts. They emphasized: “The Cyprus issue must be discussed on the right basis. Federation-based negotiations have proven fruitless. The demand for sovereign equality and international status by the Turkish Cypriot people is a legitimate right.” The MPs criticized the Greek Cypriot Administration’s uncompromising attitude and highlighted Turkey’s role as a guarantor, which has brought peace and stability to the island.

During their visit, the MPs also met with Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet, ICAPP Co-Chair Mushahid Hussain Sayed from Pakistan, Deputy Chair of the New Azerbaijan Party Tahir Budagov, and AK Party Deputy Chair Zafer Sırakaya. These bilateral meetings underscored the importance of cooperation and mutual understanding in the international arena.

UBP representatives contributed to discussions on “The Role of Political Parties in Reconciliation” at the conference. They emphasized the need to increase the visibility of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) internationally and voiced the legitimate rights of the Turkish Cypriot people on this prominent platform.

At the end of the meeting, it was decided that the next ICAPP General Assembly would be held in Seoul, South Korea, in two years. Hasipoğlu and Savaşan affirmed their commitment to continue advocating for the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) on international platforms.
