Kazakhstan is set to produce a new historical mini-series about Jochi Khan, the founder of the Golden Horde. The project, led by executive producer and director Emre Şahin, producer Fikret Manoglu, and production designer Zeki Sarayoglu of Karga Seven Pictures, was discussed during a meeting with State Advisor Erlan Karin in Astana.

The script, developed by renowned writers like Justin Pollard (“Vikings”) and Clare Moursom (“Outlaw King”), alongside Kazakh and international historians, has been completed. The creators conducted extensive research on the history of the Jochi Ulus, the Golden Horde, and the nomadic cultures and traditions of the Kazakh people.

Filming locations have been finalized, casting is underway, and production is expected to begin soon.

State Advisor Erlan Karin emphasized the importance of this project, highlighting the influence of Jochi Khan’s era on world history and geopolitics. Karga Seven Pictures added that the story of the Golden Horde has already generated significant international interest.

Emre Şahin, a Turkish director and producer known for “Rise of Empires: Ottoman” on Netflix, brings his expertise to this project. Karga Seven Pictures has a reputation for producing critically acclaimed historical dramas, and this series promises to captivate global audiences.

Scheduled for release in 2024, the year marking the 800th anniversary of the Jochi Ulus, the six-episode docudrama aims to popularize Kazakh history and attract international attention to Kazakhstan’s rich cultural heritage.
