Minister of Culture and Innovation Balázs Hankó highlighted the importance of supporting Hungarian diaspora communities during the opening of the “Legacy of Generations” conference, held in Budapest on the first Hungarian Diaspora Day. Speaking at the Ministry of Culture and Innovation, Hankó emphasized, “Our duty is to assist and strengthen the Hungarian communities that serve as the bastions of our nation.”
Hankó pointed out the challenges of preserving cultural and national identity in a world increasingly hostile to such values. “We live in a world that attempts to suppress our identity. This task demands our utmost dedication,” he stated.
He encouraged attendees to embrace their heritage with pride and resilience, saying, “We are Hungarians and Christians. This has preserved many generations and will continue to strengthen and sustain our nation through the turbulence of decades and centuries to come.”
Looking to the future, Hankó announced advancements in 2025 in several initiatives aimed at reinforcing Hungarian identity. Programs such as the Déryné Program and the Lázár Ervin Program will expand their scope to include a broader focus on the Carpathian Basin.
The Hungarian Diaspora Day marks a step forward in fostering stronger ties with Hungarian communities abroad, reflecting the government’s commitment to preserving cultural heritage and national identity.
