Speaking at the “Eurasia: New Opportunities and Risks” forum held in Astana, Kazakhstan, Farid Shafiyev, Chairman of the Board of Azerbaijan’s Center for Analysis of International Relations, emphasized that developing ties with Central Asian countries remains a key focus in Azerbaijan’s foreign policy. “Cooperation with Central Asia offers significant opportunities in areas such as energy, transport, and trade. Strengthening these relations is vital for both economic and strategic benefits,” Shafiyev stated.

Shafiyev further highlighted that Azerbaijan has played a crucial role in regional projects, which strengthen partnerships across multiple sectors. He pointed out that these partnerships are mutually beneficial and key to regional stability. “The importance of energy projects and trade routes in our cooperation with Central Asia cannot be overstated. Our collaboration in these sectors is helping to shape the future of the region,” he said.

Turning to the Caspian region, Shafiyev mentioned that both global and regional powers are increasingly pressuring countries to choose sides in geopolitical conflicts. “We are witnessing attempts by various actors to force the countries of the Caspian region to align with certain blocs. However, Azerbaijan continues to pursue a balanced foreign policy, maintaining its independence,” Shafiyev explained. He added that this approach plays a critical role in maintaining peace and stability in the region, furthering Azerbaijan’s strategic goals.
