According to the Bureau of National Statistics, as of July 1, 2024, there are 2,028.7 thousand active SMEs in Kazakhstan, a 0.7% increase compared to the same period in 2023. The number of people employed in SMEs reached 4,267 thousand, and the total output of SMEs for the first six months of 2024 amounted to 34,266.8 billion tenge.

The largest share of SMEs is represented by individual entrepreneurs, making up 69%, followed by small enterprises with 17.7%, and farms with 13.1%, while medium-sized enterprises account for only 0.1%.

The highest number of SMEs is found in the cities of Almaty (353.8 thousand), Astana (234.4 thousand), and Turkestan region (207.9 thousand), while the lowest is in the Ulytau region (18.3 thousand).

SMEs are most active in wholesale and retail trade (723.1 thousand), agriculture (299.5 thousand), and other service sectors (298.4 thousand).
