Slovakia has opened discussions with Hungary about establishing a shared sports infrastructure network for Hungary’s potential 2036-2040 Summer Olympics bid in Budapest. Slovak National Party leader Andrej Danko and Minister of Sports and Tourism Dušan Keketi stated that these consultations are not aimed at a joint bid but rather a supportive network. Danko explained, “The goal is to explore how existing and planned Slovak sports facilities can contribute to the Olympics in a sustainable manner.” Hungary is considering using venues in Slovakia, such as football stadiums in Bratislava, Dunajská Streda, and Košice.
A possible joint project includes expanding the Olympic Training Center and Sports Complex in Šamorín, which could serve as an “Olympic Arena.” Keketi noted that this arena would cover nearly 5,000 square meters, offering facilities for over 15 Olympic sports. Managed by the Slovak Olympic and Sports Committee, this complex would meet international standards for hosting global events.
The expansion is estimated to cost €31 million, with the Slovak government expected to contribute €20 million. The remaining amount will be provided by a private investor who owns part of the complex.
