President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev of Kazakhstan has arrived at the Baku Olympic Stadium to participate in the World Climate Summit, COP 29. The president was welcomed by Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev and UN Secretary-General António Guterres. According to the Akorda press service, President Tokayev will be the first speaker at the summit’s plenary session, highlighting Kazakhstan’s commitment to climate action and cooperation with the international community.
President Tokayev’s speech is expected to address Kazakhstan’s recent environmental reforms, sustainable development goals, and national commitments toward reducing carbon emissions and mitigating climate impacts. As a Central Asian country particularly vulnerable to climate change effects, Kazakhstan has been prioritizing green economic initiatives, renewable energy projects, and policies aimed at conserving water resources and enhancing environmental resilience.
The COP 29 summit, held under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, takes place from November 11 to 22 in Azerbaijan. This year’s conference gathers global leaders, environmental experts, and organizations to discuss climate change solutions and adopt key initiatives aimed at reducing global carbon footprints. President Tokayev’s participation underscores Kazakhstan’s active role in these global efforts.
Kazakhstan’s efforts toward sustainability and carbon neutrality reflect its commitment to supporting UN climate goals. Additionally, Kazakhstan plans to announce new initiatives for regional cooperation on environmental issues, reinforcing the country’s influence as a climate leader in Central Asia.
