Azerbaijan has restored its territorial integrity and sovereignty through the 44-day Patriotic War in 2020 and a one-day counter-terrorism operation in 2023. These achievements have paved the way for sustainable peace, enduring stability, and reliable security in the South Caucasus. Additionally, they have opened up significant opportunities for establishing new cooperative relationships across a broader geography.

These remarks were included in a letter from President Ilham Aliyev addressed to participants of the 12th General Assembly of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP).

In the letter, the President emphasized Azerbaijan’s proactive role in advancing a constructive peace agenda, introducing significant proposals and initiatives aimed at creating a framework for long-term stability. “Azerbaijan operates from a principled position, ensuring that its efforts align with national interests and adhere to the norms and principles of international law,” Aliyev stated.

He also highlighted the long-lasting adverse effects of armed conflicts, saying, “It is well-known that armed conflicts not only result in human loss, destruction of social infrastructure, economic downturns, and severe security challenges but also inflict significant environmental damage lasting decades.”

Azerbaijan’s approach reflects its commitment to addressing these challenges while promoting regional cooperation and sustainable development.
