Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdogan met with Hungarian Premier Viktor Orban on Thursday in Ankara to discuss bilateral relations, regional developments, and global issues. According to Türkiye’s Communications Directorate, Erdogan highlighted that recent developments in Syria prove the effectiveness of Türkiye’s humanitarian and ethical foreign policy.
He called for stronger cooperation with the EU on counterterrorism, Syria’s reconstruction, and institutional reforms. Erdogan also stressed the need to enhance trade volume between Türkiye and Hungary to $6 billion, underlining their 100-year history of strong relations.
Welcoming Prime Minister Orban and his delegation for the closing ceremony of the 2024 Turkish-Hungarian Cultural Year, Erdogan expressed Türkiye’s aim to boost cooperation in fields such as energy.
Additionally, Erdogan held talks with Hungarian President Tamas Sulyok, focusing on strengthening political, economic, and cultural ties. Erdogan thanked Hungary for its contributions to the Organization of Turkic States and reiterated Türkiye’s commitment to supporting Syria’s unity and territorial integrity while aiding reconstruction efforts.
