On February 10, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan published an article in the Armenpress news agency, making false and harmful statements about regional dynamics and the Western Azerbaijan issue.
In response, the Western Azerbaijan Community issued a statement rejecting Pashinyan’s claims. The statement reaffirmed the community’s support for the peace process between Azerbaijan and Armenia, stressing that the establishment of lasting peace and the return of Western Azerbaijanis are interconnected goals. It also highlighted that the peace negotiations began following the 2020 Patriotic War at Azerbaijan’s initiative.
The Western Azerbaijan Community expressed concern over Armenia’s actions that undermine peace and human rights, including its large-scale armament program and state-level discriminatory policies. The statement emphasized that Armenia’s continued militarization, coupled with its refusal to recognize the rights of displaced Azerbaijanis, contributes to regional instability.
Contrary to Pashinyan’s claims, the statement underscored that there is no military threat against Armenia. It accused Armenia of harboring revanchist sentiments and failing to acknowledge its past aggression and violations of international law. The Western Azerbaijan Community reaffirmed that its efforts focus on the peaceful, dignified, and safe return of forcibly displaced Azerbaijanis to their homeland while respecting Armenia’s territorial integrity.
The statement called on the Armenian government to cease its militarization efforts, stop glorifying war criminals, return offensive heavy weaponry, and create conditions for the return of Western Azerbaijanis.
