Brussels hosted the Regional Water Forum, organized by the Drought Prevention Institute (DPI) under the Organization of Turkic States (OTS), with the support of the Hungarian Export Promotion Agency (HEPA).

The forum brought together diplomats accredited to the Turkic States, representatives of international organizations, and leading experts in water resources and sustainable development.


Key Speakers at the Forum

The opening speeches were delivered by the following distinguished figures:

  • Kubanychbek Omuraliev – Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States
  • Shahin Mustafayev – President of the Turkic Academy
  • Tamás Iván Kovács – Hungarian Ambassador to Belgium
  • István Vásári – Executive Director of the OTS Representation in Hungary
  • Gábor Jenei – General Director of HEPA
  • Francis Baert – Vice President of the European Trade Promotion Organization

Speakers emphasized the importance of international cooperation in water management and shared their insights on developing sustainable solutions.


Turkic Academy President Highlights Water Security Issues

The President of the Turkic Academy, Shahin Mustafayev, delivered a speech titled “Cooperation for Sustainability and Water in the Turkic States.” He highlighted that water security has become one of the most pressing challengesin the region. Mustafayev pointed out major environmental issues such as the desiccation of the Aral Sea and the threat of depletion of the Caspian Sea, stressing the need for stronger cooperation to protect water resources.

He also presented the Turkic Academy’s report, “Vision for the Future of Water in the Turkic States and Cooperation for Sustainability,” which proposes:

  • Strategic approaches to water security
  • Opportunities for international cooperation
  • Practical and innovative solutions

Mustafayev underlined that achieving the “Turkic World Vision – 2040” goals requires effective water policies, innovative solutions, and collective efforts from all stakeholders.


New Opportunities for Regional Cooperation

The forum provided new opportunities for water resource management and deepening regional cooperation.Participants showed great interest in the presented report, which outlined key areas for strengthening collaboration among Turkic states in water management.

Attendees emphasized the global importance of water security and agreed on the necessity of organizing similar events in the future.
