Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif declared that Pakistan fully supports Türkiye and the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, emphasizing its unwavering commitment to the Northern Cyprus cause. Speaking at a joint press conference with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan—who is on a two-day official visit following stops in Malaysia and Indonesia—Sharif affirmed Pakistan’s resolute backing of Türkiye on the Cyprus issue.
Sharif hailed President Erdogan as “a very important and highly respected leader of the Islamic world.” He noted that Erdogan has consistently led by example, championing the rights of oppressed people in regions such as Gaza, Palestine, and Kashmir. “When you speak, not only do millions in the Islamic world listen intently, but the entire globe takes note,” Sharif remarked, commending Erdogan for transforming Türkiye.
The Pakistani premier also underscored Türkiye’s steadfast support for the just cause of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, praising its clear and vocal stance. Sharif reiterated his government’s “unwavering” support for Ankara.
Recalling the sacrifices made by Pakistan in the fight against terrorism, Sharif expressed gratitude to President Erdogan for his solidarity in the face of loss. He further urged neighboring Afghanistan to contribute to combating terrorism, rather than facilitating its spread.
Thanking Erdogan for his visit—his first to Pakistan in five years—Sharif stated that the government and people of Pakistan “warmly welcome” the Turkish leader in Islamabad.
