As part of President Sadyr Japarov’s initiative to promote a “green economy” and protect the environment, Kyrgyzstan has launched an ambitious project aimed at reducing carbon emissions and restoring ecological balance. For the first time in the country’s history, a large-scale tree planting campaign is being implemented, with over 10 million saplings to be planted across 25,000 hectares in the sacred region of Issyk-Kul.

During a meeting between Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers Adylbek Kasymaliev and representatives of the UK-based company Valor Carbon, a proposal was made to attract up to $180 million in climate financing. The project also envisions the establishment of carbon credits, enabling Kyrgyzstan to access global “green” finance markets.

Kasymaliev emphasized Kyrgyzstan’s ambition to be at the forefront of sustainable development and environmental responsibility. According to Valor Carbon representatives, the initiative would be the first of its kind in the region and open new opportunities in tourism, logistics, food processing, beekeeping, and other sectors using modern technology and sustainable practices.

Both parties expressed a strong commitment to implementing the project without delay and exploring new avenues for collaboration.
