Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, after meeting with the Prime Minister of Montenegro in Budapest, highlighted the mutual trust between the two countries, noting that “no matter what happens in world politics, Hungary and Montenegro can count on each other.” He praised the strong economic and political ties, emphasizing the lack of conflicts between the nations. Orbán noted the increasing presence of Hungarian companies in Montenegro and the ongoing success of bilateral trade, which continues to set new records each year.
On the international front, Orbán identified the enlargement of the European Union (EU) as the most critical issue. He expressed concerns about the EU’s declining competitiveness and shrinking influence in the global economy. According to Orbán, “fresh energy and new resources” are needed to boost the EU’s economy, with the integration of the Western Balkans being the clearest path forward. He criticized the EU for neglecting enlargement, which has caused delays and stalled progress, adding that Hungary’s upcoming EU presidency will work to change this situation.
Orbán concluded by underscoring the importance of Hungary-Montenegro cooperation, particularly in economic development. He reaffirmed Hungary’s commitment to supporting Montenegro and ensuring that both countries continue to benefit from their strong partnership.
