Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán convened a meeting of the National Defense Council to address the escalating risks of the ongoing war. Sharing updates via social media, Orbán remarked, “The war has entered its most dangerous phase,” as he discussed alarming developments.

The prime minister noted that with Donald Trump’s election as the next U.S. president, there is renewed hope for peace or at least a ceasefire. However, Orbán warned that the current war-supporting administration remains in power for the coming months, complicating efforts to de-escalate the conflict.

Orbán also drew attention to the outgoing U.S. President Joe Biden’s recent decision to authorize Ukraine to deploy long-range American missiles on Russian territory, a move that prompted Russia to adopt a stricter nuclear doctrine. Orbán stressed that Hungary must leverage all its expertise, tools, and diplomatic experience in the weeks ahead to avoid being drawn into the war.
