Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has urged EU leaders to consider a new approach to supporting Ukraine, expressing doubts over the sustainability of Europe’s military and financial assistance. Ahead of this week’s EU summit in Budapest, Orbán highlighted the need for urgent discussions on Ukraine’s future. Speaking to Magyar Nemzet at the Organization of Turkic States summit in Kyrgyzstan, Orbán argued that Donald Trump’s presidential victory in the U.S. could prompt a rethink in the EU’s strategy toward Ukraine.

Orbán emphasized the importance of discussing Europe’s capacity to independently sustain military and financial support without external assistance. He also voiced concerns about the €50 billion loan package for Ukraine, previously agreed upon by G7 countries and funded jointly by the European Union and the United States.
