Kyrgyzstan has unveiled its Sustainable Tourism Development Program, focusing on fostering a competitive, sustainable, and popular tourism sector. The program, approved by the Cabinet of Ministers on December 18, 2024 (Decree No. 765), identifies nine priority areas for implementation through 2030:
- Optimization of State Tourism Policy: Enhancing legal frameworks and strategic management.
- Building the Consumer Market: Increasing the appeal of tourism services for local and international visitors.
- Digital Transformation: Integrating modern technologies to simplify access to tourism products.
- Tourism Safety: Ensuring safe conditions for travelers.
- Preservation of Cultural and Natural Heritage: Protecting Kyrgyzstan’s unique ecological balance and historical assets.
- Regional Development: Stimulating local economies through tourism.
- Infrastructure Development: Improving transport, hospitality, and tourism facilities.
- Green Technology Adoption: Promoting environmentally friendly initiatives.
- Promotion of Niche Tourism: Focusing on medical, sports, and wellness tourism.
Key Objectives by 2030:
- Kyrgyzstan’s inclusion in the top 50 countries in the World Economic Forum’s Travel & Tourism Competitiveness Index.
- Tourism’s contribution to GDP increasing to 7%.
- A 10% annual growth in the number of foreign and domestic tourists.
- Achieving a score of 70+ in international mountain tourism safety ratings.
The program also incorporates a monitoring and evaluation system to track progress and ensure goals are met. This initiative aims not only to strengthen the tourism sector but also to boost regional economies and protect Kyrgyzstan’s unique environment and cultural heritage.
