Kyrgyzstan has taken a significant step toward strengthening its financial sovereignty. President Sadyr Japarov announced that the country has officially started producing its national currency, the Kyrgyz som, domestically. The announcement was made during his visit to the state printing house “Uchkun,” where he was briefed on the new currency production process.
According to the President’s Press Secretary, Askat Alagozov, Kyrgyzstan’s move to print its own currency within the country will enhance financial independence and ensure greater security in monetary transactions.
Previously, Kyrgyz banknotes were printed abroad in specialized international printing facilities. However, due to concerns over national security and economic stability, Kyrgyzstan has now transitioned to in-house currency production.
The project is being implemented in phases. In the initial stage, banknotes with basic security features have begun production. Over time, more advanced security elements meeting international standards will be introduced.
This transition is expected to reduce costs associated with currency production while also creating new jobs in the printing and financial technology sectors. In the long run, domestic banknote production will play a crucial role in Kyrgyzstan’s economic self-sufficiency.
