The Kazakhstan Writers’ Union marked its 90th anniversary with a high-profile event in Almaty. The event was attended by TURKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev, Kazakhstan’s Minister of Culture Aida Balaeva, and prominent literary figures such as Kazakhstan Writers’ Union President Mereke Kulkenov, among others.

Speaking in Kazakh, Sultan Raev praised the Kazakhstan Writers’ Union for its contributions not only to Kazakh literature but also to the shared culture of the Turkic World. Raev remarked, “Kazakh literature has always been the voice of the people and an expression of national identity.”

Raev was presented with the International “Alaş” Medal by Mereke Kulkenov, who commended his efforts in promoting Kazakh literature on the global stage.

The program featured poetry recitals, panels, and cultural activities, celebrating the shared literary heritage of the Turkic World. Prominent figures such as Abay Kunanbayev and Mukhtar Auezov were honored during the event, and the efforts of the Kazakhstan Writers’ Union in preserving this heritage for future generations were widely praised.
