The vote counting from all 10,323 ballot boxes across the country was completed, with 63.66% of the votes in favor of building the plant. Out of the 5,561,937 voters who supported the construction, 71.12% backed the proposal, while 2,045,271 voters (28.88%) opposed it.
Approximately 213,000 votes were declared invalid.
Exit polls revealed on national TV showed that 69.8% of voters said “yes” to building a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan, while 30.2% voted “no.”
An exit poll conducted by the ruling “Amanat” party’s Public Policy Institute surveyed 44,160 voters at 300 polling stations, with 72.3% voting in favor and 27.7% against the nuclear power plant.
Similarly, the Eurasian Integration Institute conducted an exit poll with 30,000 voters, showing that 71.8% supported the construction, while 28.2% were opposed.
Kazakh citizens went to the polls yesterday to decide on whether the country should build its first nuclear power plant.
According to preliminary results from the Central Election Commission, 7,820,918 out of 12,244,683 eligible voters (63.87%) participated in the referendum.
Voters answered the question: “Do you agree to the construction of a nuclear power plant in Kazakhstan?” with either “yes” or “no.”
The final results of the referendum will be announced by Kazakhstan’s Central Election Commission within seven days.
