Kazakhstan will host the first-ever National Book Contest “Ulttıq Book,” organized by the Ministry of Culture and Information in celebration of National Book Day. The contest aims to promote a culture of reading, support the development of Kazakh literature, and recognize outstanding authors, translators, publishers, and book designers.

Submissions will be accepted from January 15 to April 11, 2025. According to the ministry, only works published in the past two years will be eligible. The contest will feature ten categories, such as Best Children’s Book, Best Non-Fiction Book, Best Illustrated Book, and the prestigious Grand Prix “Book of the Year.”

Books will be judged on criteria including literary quality, originality of style, relevance, historical accuracy, and overall design. The initiative is part of a broader effort to encourage reading in Kazakh society, a priority set by the President during the third National Kurultai.
