At the COP 29 World Climate Summit, Presidents Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Ilham Aliyev, and Shavkat Mirziyoyev signed a Strategic Partnership Agreement on the production and transmission of green energy between Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, and Uzbekistan. According to President Tokayev, this agreement marks a new chapter in the collective commitment to sustainable development. The Agreement highlights Kazakhstan’s role as a crucial transit hub for clean energy supply routes to European and other markets. This “green bridge” across Central Asia and the South Caucasus opens new opportunities for integrating energy systems and developing the Middle Corridor as a reliable, eco-friendly link between regional economies.
Kazakhstan, aiming for carbon neutrality, has prioritized green energy as it actively works on reducing reliance on fossil fuels. Tokayev emphasized Kazakhstan’s commitment, mentioning agreements with international partners to implement green energy projects totaling 43 GW. President Aliyev noted that this partnership elevates the strategic relations between the three nations, and President Mirziyoyev underlined the environmental significance of the project, which will utilize wind and solar energy, reinforcing the countries’ support for the Paris Agreement and sustainable development goals.
In the presence of the heads of state, energy ministers from Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, and Saudi Arabia signed an Executive Program on cooperation in the development and transmission of green energy.
