peaking at the Foreign Investors Council in Astana, Kazakhstan’s President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev revealed the country’s plan to raise annual oil production to 100 million tons. He highlighted the significant role that international oil companies have played in advancing Kazakhstan’s energy sector, leading to a threefold increase in oil output over the past 30 years. These efforts have placed Kazakhstan among the world’s top countries for oil production growth.
President Tokayev also addressed the importance of developing the gas and petrochemical sectors. Through a partnership with Chevron, new gas fields are being explored, and an agreement has been signed for the development of the Jalibek field in the Aktobe region. In 2022, Kazakhstan launched Central Asia’s largest polypropylene production facility, with a capacity of 500,000 tons per year, meeting 60% of domestic demand and exporting to Europe, Turkey, and China. This year, construction began on a polyethylene plant with an annual capacity of 1.02 million tons.
According to Tokayev, the government is committed to increasing investment in the renewable energy sector. Agreements have been signed with global companies, including Total, Svevind, ACWA Power, and Masdar, to develop green energy projects with a capacity of 43 gigawatts.
