Kazakhstan is considering increasing its oil exports through the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline from the current 1.5 million tons to 20 million tons annually. This announcement was made by Kazakhstan’s Minister of Energy, Almasadam Satkaliyev, during a government session in the Majilis.

According to the minister, with the growth of oil production and the launch of new offshore projects, the Ministry of Energy, in collaboration with “KazMunayGaz” and other stakeholders, is working on developing additional oil transportation routes. Special attention is being paid to the Trans-Caspian International Transport Corridor.

— The Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan route is one of the promising directions as both Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are interested in developing and gradually increasing oil exports through this pipeline, — said the minister.

In 2024, it is planned to transport 1.5 million tons of Kazakh oil through the BTC. However, in the medium term, efforts are being made to increase this figure to 20 million tons annually.

Earlier, the Ministry of Energy explained the reasons for the decline in oil production this year.
