In 2024, Kazakhstan chaired six major international organizations, a first in its history, including the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, the Collective Security Treaty Organization, and the International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea. These presidencies highlighted Kazakhstan’s leadership in environmental preservation, security, and regional cooperation.

Kazakhstan’s middle power status was officially recognized in 2024 by Germany’s “Science and Politics Foundation.” This designation reflects the country’s growing importance in global politics and its efforts to diversify economically and geopolitically. The nation also excelled in cultural diplomacy, hosting the “Kazakhstan Tourism Year” in China, which attracted over half a million Chinese tourists and generated $300 million in revenue.

On the peacekeeping front, Kazakhstan continued its engagement in UN missions, with the deployment of 139 personnel to the Golan Heights being a historic milestone. The country also sent aid to neighboring states like Kyrgyzstan and Tajikistan and resolved key international disputes.

Kazakhstan’s athletes gained global recognition at the 2024 Paris Olympics, climbing to 43rd place with seven medals. The nation also hosted the 5th World Nomad Games, adding new sports and drawing participants from 90 countries, further promoting its cultural heritage.

The year concluded with 23 international visits by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who participated in 19 forums and engaged in numerous bilateral meetings, strengthening Kazakhstan’s ties globally.
