Kazakhstan and the United Nations have signed a new agreement to finance the participation of Kazakh peacekeepers in the mission on the Golan Heights. This agreement follows the Parliamentary resolution of January 19, 2024, initiated by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
According to Deputy Minister of Defense Shaikh-Hasan Zhazykbayev, the foundational Memorandum regulating administrative, logistical, and financial terms was signed on February 14, 2024. In March 2024, 139 Kazakh troops and 26 units of military equipment were deployed to the mission.
An additional agreement signed in late 2024 regulates the allocation of payments from the UN. Troops will receive direct payments for their service, while compensation for provided equipment will go to the state budget.
The Deputy Minister highlighted that Kazakhstan’s participation in UN peacekeeping missions enhances the country’s international prestige and contributes to global security.
