Construction has begun in November in the Mangystau region to increase the capacity of the Aktau port, enhance Kazakhstan’s position in the international logistics system, and expand the potential of its transport and logistics sector, reports Kazinform News Agency citing the Ministry of Transport of Kazakhstan. The project is being implemented by the Lianyungang Port Group in collaboration with the Aktau Sea Commercial Port.
The hub is expected to boost container shipments along the Trans-Caspian route through Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Turkey, redirecting part of the transit cargo flows from China to Europe.
Currently, land development work is underway, involving more than 20 units of specialized machinery. Container transportation through Kazakhstan’s seaports has increased by 84%, reaching 58,000 TEUs, with container shipments on the Trans-Caspian International Transport Route (TITR) growing 2.7 times.
Upon completion, the project will increase the throughput capacity of the Aktau port to 240,000 TEUs per year. The work is expected to be completed by mid-2025.
Previously, joint projects between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan at the Aktau Sea Port were also reported.
