Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are deepening their strategic cooperation across trade, logistics, energy, and digital technology. In 2023, bilateral trade exceeded $500 million, with plans to reach $1 billion. Kazakhstan aims to boost exports of 130 types of processed goods, including grain, oilseeds, and rice.

Over 1,500 Azerbaijani businesses operate in Kazakhstan, while 150 Kazakh companies are active in Azerbaijan. The joint investment fund launched the construction of an intermodal terminal in Baku’s Alat port. The Middle Corridor (TITR) is central to this partnership: in 2024, cargo traffic rose by 20% and container volume by 76%. The Baku-Tbilisi-Kars rail line was fully modernized.

In energy, Kazakhstan diversifies oil exports via the Baku-Tbilisi-Ceyhan (BTC) pipeline, including the first crude shipment from the giant Kashagan field. Future plans may increase oil flow through BTC to 20 million tons. Simultaneously, the two nations are building a subsea high-voltage cable across the Caspian as part of the “Green Energy Corridor” project, backed by ADB and AIIB.

Prime Minister Olzhas Bektenov’s visit to Baku marked progress in digital trade and cyber integration. A new submarine fiber-optic cable will enhance connectivity and data transfer across Eurasia. Amid shifting global dynamics, Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan are emerging as a vital bridge between Europe and the Turkic world.
