Kazakhstan has officially patented the Kazakh Tazy, a breed uniquely adapted to the country’s harsh climatic conditions. This marks a significant step toward preserving national hunting traditions and the cultural legacy of Kazakhstan.
The patent was issued based on evaluations by the state commission of the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Kazakhstan (MoA RK). The Republican Association of Hunters and Hunting Entities “Qansonar” is the official patent holder, tasked with the breed’s conservation and public promotion alongside the Kazakh Tobet breed.
Between 2021 and 2023, scientific studies were conducted to analyze the genetic profile and gene pool of Kazakh Tazy dogs. These studies revealed their distinct nervous system stability, endurance, and adaptability to extreme weather. The breed also excels in coursing (mechanical lure racing) and other canine competitions.
Annual breed evaluations and shows are conducted nationwide by “Qansonar,” ensuring that the dogs meet strict breed standards. Male Tazy dogs must score at least 120 points and females at least 100 during evaluations.
The exceptional endurance and adaptability of Kazakh Tazy make them ideal for various climates, including cold winters and scorching summers. Recognized by the International Canine Federation, this breed holds a unique position in the global canine community.
In January 2023, President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev signed a law granting state protection to Kazakh Tazy and Tobet breeds, further solidifying their national significance.
