Astana, March 2025 – Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev met with Shen Yanfen, General Director of the China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC), to discuss cooperation in the nuclear energy sector, according to Kazinform.

Tokayev emphasized that Kazakhstan is prioritizing nuclear energy and has recently decided to establish a Nuclear Energy Agency. He stated that cooperation with CNNC will provide Kazakhstan with access to advanced technologies and international expertise.

Shen Yanfen, in turn, shared details about CNNC’s projects in China and abroad, expressing readiness to expand collaboration with Kazakhstan.

Previously, Tokayev announced plans to build three nuclear power plants in Kazakhstan, aiming for energy independence and a transition to a green economy.
