President of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev will pay an official state visit to Mongolia on October 28-29, where he is scheduled to hold talks with Mongolian President Ukhnaagiin Khurelsukh, Chairman of the Great Khural Dashzegviin Amarbaysgalan, and Prime Minister Luvsannamsrain Oyun-Erdene. The visit aims to enhance collaboration in key areas, with agreements on joint infrastructure and cultural projects to be signed.
Diplomatic relations between Kazakhstan and Mongolia were formally established on January 22, 1992. Over the years, more than 60 bilateral treaties have been signed, solidifying a long-standing friendship built on historical and cultural ties. The two countries have recently focused on expanding economic, trade, and cultural ties through the development of a new cross-border highway and ongoing projects, like the joint museum and exhibitions dedicated to nomadic history.
A new highway connecting Ust-Kamenogorsk in Kazakhstan with the Mongolian border is under discussion, with potential to shorten travel times, enhance trade, and diversify transport routes for both countries. This infrastructure project aligns with both nations’ interest in the Middle Corridor, allowing Mongolia to connect to Central Asia and the EU via Kazakhstan. Experts believe that this state visit could be a turning point for both countries’ ties, yielding promising initiatives and strengthening the strategic partnership.
