In its upcoming session, the Hungarian Parliament is set to address a range of legislative items, including an authorization to extend the state of emergency in response to the ongoing Ukraine crisis. This decision aims to mitigate the domestic effects of the armed conflict and humanitarian challenges in the neighboring country. Under the proposed amendment, the government could extend the emergency period until May 18, 2025, in response to the situation in Ukraine.

The session will also involve procedural matters, including the certification and swearing-in of new members of parliament. Notably, Fidesz party member Csaba Dömötör, recently elected to the European Parliament, will have his Hungarian parliamentary seat assumed by Barbara Hegedűs.

In addition to the state of emergency vote, lawmakers are expected to address amendments to the rules of conflict of interest, specifically those concerning public-interest asset management foundations performing state tasks. Following these decisions, the session will continue with an “immediate questions and answers” period, allowing MPs to address inquiries to government officials, followed by interpellations.

Furthermore, committee reports and summary amendments for eight legislative proposals will be discussed. Among these items is the review of last year’s budget closing statement.
