President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, speaking at the G20 Summit in Rio de Janeiro, emphasized the need for comprehensive global reforms and bold peace initiatives from world leaders. Erdogan expressed hope that the incoming US administration under President-elect Donald Trump would take decisive steps toward achieving peace, particularly in conflict zones like Ukraine and the Middle East.
Erdogan criticized the UN Security Council, calling it an “elitist structure” that favors the interests of its five permanent members over the 193 member nations. Reiterating his call for reform with the slogan “The world is bigger than five,” Erdogan stressed the urgency for an inclusive and fair global system.
The Turkish president condemned Israel’s ongoing attacks in Gaza and Lebanon, which have caused tens of thousands of deaths. He called for international accountability and greater recognition of Palestinian statehood, urging responsible nations to impose sanctions based on international law.
Erdogan highlighted Türkiye’s humanitarian efforts, especially in Gaza and Lebanon, and reaffirmed Türkiye’s unwavering support for the oppressed. He also praised Brazil’s leadership in the fight against hunger and poverty, aligning Türkiye with the Global Alliance Against Hunger and Poverty as a founding member.
