China’s establishment of a drone production facility in occupied Kashgar, East Turkistan, has drawn attention due to reports suggesting the drones are being supplied to Russia. The issue was highlighted during the European Union (EU) foreign ministers’ meeting in Brussels on Nov. 18, 2024.
The facility is seen as a significant contributor to Russia’s ongoing operations in Ukraine, raising questions about the broader implications of China’s military collaboration with Russia. This development has sparked discussions in Europe about potential sanctions on China if evidence confirms direct involvement in providing drones to Russia.
Belgian Foreign Minister Hadja Lahbib, speaking on Nov. 20, expressed concerns about China’s increasing role in the Ukraine conflict, warning that such actions could have diplomatic consequences and influence Europe’s policies toward Beijing.
Experts note that China’s collaboration with Russia in this regard has implications for regional and global security. The growing alignment between the two nations highlights shifting dynamics in international relations, posing challenges for Europe and beyond.
