Baku Harmoniya, a groundbreaking climate initiative, was officially launched during the COP29 event in Azerbaijan. Speaking at the event titled “Launch of Baku Harmoniya Climate Initiative for Farmers: Empowering Farmers for Climate Resilience,” Zhala Ibrahimova, Co-Lead of the COP29 Action Agenda Team, highlighted the initiative’s ambitious goal of integrating diverse efforts to address climate challenges in agriculture.
“Agriculture has immense potential to drive climate solutions, from promoting sustainable land use to improving water efficiency. At COP29, we are proud to launch Baku Harmoniya to unite initiatives, networks, and coalitions to empower farmers and rural communities in building resilience to climate change,” Ibrahimova stated.
Last week, a Memorandum of Understanding was signed with the FAO to further enhance the initiative. The project focuses on creating a cohesive system addressing immediate climate challenges while promoting long-term sustainability, food security, and rural development. It also aims to align with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
COP29, running until November 22 at the Baku Olympic Stadium, is the largest climate-focused event ever held in Azerbaijan. As part of this conference, a high-level world leaders’ summit on climate action was held on November 12–13, emphasizing the urgency of global collaboration on climate finance and resilience.
Baku Harmoniya is one of 14 initiatives under COP29’s action agenda, reflecting its overarching goal to link climate action with SDGs through innovative approaches such as green energy, clean hydrogen, and sustainable digital technologies.
