At the European Silk Road Summit held in Vienna, Azerbaijan Railways (ADY) CJSC presented European logistics companies with new opportunities created by the Middle Corridor, according to a statement by ADY. Emil Mammadov, Advisor to the ADY Chairman, emphasized Azerbaijan’s central role in developing this route and fostering regional and international cooperation to increase transit freight volumes.
Highlighting the Baku-Tbilisi-Kars (BTK) railway line, Mammadov noted its potential for unlocking the full capabilities of the Middle Corridor. He explained that the BTK offers a faster and shorter route for transporting transit and export goods from China to Europe, with an annual capacity of five million tons.
Mammadov further elaborated on the benefits for European logistics operators, encouraging them to leverage the Middle Corridor’s growing infrastructure for regional transport. He also detailed ADY’s progress in developing a cargo base and enhancing connections from West to East through Türkiye and the BTK line.
He shared updates on the joint ventures established between Azerbaijan, Georgia, and Kazakhstan to boost the Middle Corridor’s efficiency. Notably, ADY launched its first export block train from Azerbaijan to China this month, consisting of 62 containers set to reach Xi’an, China, by year’s end.
To strengthen the Middle Corridor, Mammadov highlighted the consultative meeting held in Baku earlier this year with railway organizations from Azerbaijan, Türkiye, Central Asia, and Europe, aiming to establish the Eurasian Transport Route International Association. He concluded by emphasizing the importance of revitalizing the southern branch of the Middle Corridor to enhance freight turnover.
