Ministers from Azerbaijan, Georgia, Türkiye, and Bulgaria convened in Baku for the 2nd Ministerial Meeting on the “Azerbaijan-Georgia-Türkiye-Bulgaria Green Energy Corridor” project, held within the framework of the Southern Gas Corridor and Green Energy Advisory Councils.

The meeting focused on the establishment of regional green energy infrastructure to enhance energy security, highlighting Azerbaijan’s vast renewable energy potential and its growing role as an energy exporter.

Representing Azerbaijan, Energy Minister Parviz Shahbazov was joined by Georgia’s Deputy Minister of Economy and Sustainable Development Vakhtang Tsintsadze, Türkiye’s Minister of Energy and Natural Resources Alparslan Bayraktar, and Bulgaria’s Energy Minister Zhcho Stankov.

At the meeting, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed on cooperation in the transmission and trade of green electricity among the four countries.

Minister Shahbazov stated, “By signing this MoU, we are announcing the launch of a new green energy corridor sourced from Azerbaijan. Our strong foundation in renewable energy, existing export infrastructure, and partnership experience will ensure this initiative’s success.”

Georgia’s Deputy Minister Tsintsadze emphasized that the MoU lays the groundwork for expanding cross-border electricity infrastructure and enhancing energy security while promoting cleaner, sustainable energy for future generations.

Minister Bayraktar of Türkiye noted the strategic significance of transboundary electricity interconnections and underlined the need for ongoing regulatory and market harmonization.

Bulgarian Minister Stankov highlighted that energy transformation is part of broader economic shifts requiring secure and clean energy supplies, emphasizing the importance of reliable cooperation and partnerships.

The MoU outlines collaboration on investment projects, infrastructure development, and integration with the ENTSO-E electricity network to boost the green energy trade potential among the four nations.
