Aktau, the picturesque city on the Caspian Sea coast, is actively preparing to take on the prestigious title of the 2025 Turkic World Cultural Capital. Designated by TURKSOY, this recognition places Aktau at the forefront of efforts to celebrate and promote the shared cultural values of Turkic nations.
Officials from the Mangystau Region’s administration, TURKSOY representatives, and cultural leaders recently met to discuss an extensive program of events, including festivals, exhibitions, and academic forums, to mark the year-long celebration. “Aktau will not only showcase its own rich traditions but also serve as a platform for collaboration and cultural exchange among Turkic countries,” stated a spokesperson from the organizing committee.
In preparation, Aktau is investing in cultural infrastructure, including the restoration of historical sites, the development of arts venues, and the promotion of local crafts and traditions. This effort aims to ensure a vibrant and inclusive cultural year that resonates with both residents and visitors.
Highlighting the significance of such initiatives, TURKSOY Secretary-General Sultan Raev emphasized: “The Turkic World Cultural Capital project strengthens the bonds between our nations and helps preserve the rich heritage we share. Aktau’s designation for 2025 is a testament to its cultural and historical importance within our shared history.”
As the year approaches, Aktau is set to host preliminary events and collaborations with Turkic countries to build momentum for the main festivities. These activities will aim to promote the unity of the Turkic world and celebrate its diverse traditions, art, and history.
