On February 7, 2025, the Coordination Meeting for Aktau 2025, the Turkic World Cultural Capital, was held in Kazakhstan’s city of Aktau under the leadership of TÜRKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev and Mangystau Governor Nurdaulet Kilibay. Officials overseeing the city’s cultural and artistic activities, along with a TÜRKSOY delegation, discussed the year’s event program.

The celebrations will kick off in April with a grand opening ceremony featuring nearly 500 artists from the Turkic world. More than 30 international thematic events will follow throughout the year.

A Spectacular Opening Awaits

As a key tourist destination on the Caspian Sea, Aktau will host an outdoor opening event that is expected to attract thousands of visitors. A special ethnographic village will be set up along the shore, offering an immersive experience in Turkic traditions, Mangystau’s historical heritage, and local craftsmanship.

TÜRKSOY Secretary General Sultan Raev highlighted Aktau’s unique role:
“Aktau, with its location, historical legacy, and modern appeal, stands apart from previous cultural capitals. We believe the events here will leave a lasting cultural and touristic impact on the city beyond the festival period.”

Mangystau Governor Nurdaulet Kilibay emphasized the project’s importance:
“This initiative is an honor and a responsibility for us. We must showcase our national culture and traditions in the best way possible, presenting the shared values of the Turkic peoples to the world from Aktau.”

Bringing the Turkic World Together

The Aktau 2025 Cultural Capital events will feature a diverse program, including theater, cinema, opera, dance, traditional arts, poetry and painting exhibitions, craft festivals, academic conferences, and literary discussions. These events will strengthen cultural ties among Turkic nations while providing unique opportunities for artists and cultural figures.
