The city of Turkistan has officially adopted a comprehensive design code, which will take effect ten calendar days after its publication, reports Kazinform. The decision was made based on subparagraph 2 of Article 8 of the Law of the Republic of Kazakhstan “On the Special Status of the City of Turkistan.”

The design code sets mandatory standards for building facades, landscaping elements, signage, small architectural forms, and other urban infrastructure components. Its primary aim is to ensure an aesthetically unified, safe, accessible, and comfortable urban environment. Special emphasis is placed on the historic part of the city, where all structures of cultural and historical value must be preserved.

Additionally, the document regulates relations between government bodies and all forms of property organizations involved in architecture, urban planning, and construction activities. It outlines key models for spatial planning and sets specific requirements for urban structural organization. Earlier, it was reported that 74% of the population of the Turkistan region lives in rural areas.
