The 4th Korkut Ata Turkic World Film Festival was inaugurated in Ashgabat’s Mukamlar Palace, with participation from Deputy Prime Minister Mihricemal Mammedova, Türkiye’s Ambassador to Ashgabat Ahmet Demirok, Turkmenistan’s Minister of Culture Atageldi Shamuradov, TURKSOY Secretary-General Sultan Raev, and numerous cinema professionals. The event marks a major cultural gathering celebrating the unity and creativity of the Turkic world.
This year’s festival, organized from November 13 to 15, 2024, as part of the “2024 Anev Turkic World Cultural Capital” activities, features participants from six countries, including filmmakers, actors, and academics. Festival screenings began in three cinemas in Ashgabat, showcasing films that reflect the rich heritage of the Turkic world.
During the opening ceremony, Turkmen President Serdar Berdimuhamedov conveyed a message emphasizing the importance of cultural collaboration among Turkic nations. “The declaration of Anev as the Turkic World Cultural Capital by TURKSOY will significantly contribute to strengthening cultural ties,” Berdimuhamedov stated in his message, shared by Deputy Prime Minister Mammedova.
TURKSOY Secretary-General Sultan Raev underlined the festival’s role in promoting cultural cooperation and the richness of Turkic cinema. “The Korkut Ata Turkic World Film Festival is not just a platform for films but a symbol of unity that deepens cultural bonds,” he remarked. Raev also expressed gratitude to President Berdimuhamedov and cultural organizations for their unwavering support.
Over three days, screenings and masterclasses for students at the State Institute of Culture of Turkmenistan will be held alongside a summit featuring cinema professionals. Festival attendees will also have the chance to explore Ashgabat’s historical and cultural sites, including the historic city of Anev, designated the 2024 Turkic World Cultural Capital.
